Depending on the licence category sought, there are different practical requirements. These are outlined on pages 16 to 17 of the Part 66 Manual of Standards (Reference: Part 66 MOS, Pages 16 to 17). We will use the B1.1 category as an example. As outlined in the MOS, 66.A.30 (a) 2, one of the following three conditions should satisfy the experience requirements.
- 5 years practical maintenance experience
- 3 years practical maintenance experience, if the applicant is qualified as a skilled worker in a technical trade
- 2 years practical maintenance experience and completion of a category training course conducted by an MTO.
Regarding point 2, the AMC/GM gives a range of vocations which may constitute a “skilled worker in a technical trade”. Such industries include Automotive, Electrotechnology, Engineering, Telecommunications and Aviation. (Reference:AMC/GM for Part 66, Pages 29-30).
Note that the timeframes listed in this FAQ apply specifically to the B1.1 (and B1.3) licences. For other categories and subcategories, refer to the Part 66 MOS.
