MEA is the ‘designator ‘unit desciptor’ for the Aeroskills Training Package (Reference: https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/MEA). When people within Aeroskills refer to “MEAs”, they are in fact referring to a “Unit of Competency” (UOC) which is applicable to qualifications with the Aeroskills Training Package.
The Part 66 MOS defines the ‘unit descriptor’ MEA as “Manufacturing and Engineering Assessment” (Reference: Part 66 MOS, Page 3).
Examples of Aeroskills qualifications include (but are not limited to) Certificate II in Aeroskills (Reference:https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/MEA20418), Certificate IV in Aeroskills – Mechanical (Reference:https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/MEA40718) and Diploma in Aeroskills – Avionics (Reference:https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/MEA50118).
Each Aeroskills qualification has specific requirements regarding the selection of Units of Competency (“MEAs”) which must be completed satisfactorily to be awarded the qualification (e.g., Certificate IV in Aeroskills).
N.B. CASA has no role in awarding Units of Competency (“MEA”) or the associated qualifications (e.g., Certificate II, Certificate IV, or Diploma in Aeroskills). These units of competency and qualifications fall under the regulator of the VET system- ASQA.
