Simple answer, no. Regardless of this incorrect messaging, a 50% pass in a CASA exam WILL NOT SATISFY the ASQA knowledge requirements to demonstrate competence in any Unit of Competency (“MEA”). Demonstrating competence in a Unit of Competency requires assessment against all performance evidence and knowledge evidence criteria listed in the unit (Reference: Standards for RTOs (2015), Page 17).
Furthermore, a “grading” system is redundant as far as a Unit of Competency is concerned, as the only possible outcomes are “Competent (C)” and “Not Yet Competent (NYC)”. To underline this point, even if someone achieved 100% in every CASA multiple choice exam, they may still fall short of the knowledge evidence in virtually every unit of competency, as there would be areas of knowledge left unaddressed.
