In reality, it shouldn’t be complicated, as the requirements are set out in the Part 66 Manual of Standards, and supported in the associated CASA guidance material. Unfortunately, the complications and confusion may emanate from those training organisations tasked with issuing correct guidance. It is always important to exercise discernment when accepting licencing advice that conflicts with written guidance material. Any perceived complications with licencing pathways may simply be based on misunderstanding, misinformation, and general lack of proper research into the system. Often you may benefit from a) simply seeking a second opinion from a trusted or referred source, and b) educating yourself with the legislative material prior to engaging with the training organisation.
It is also very important to identify the root causes of these perceived complications. There is common belief that the “system is broken”. However, it is important to realise that this is not necessarily the case, and that it may in fact be training organisations which apply the system in faulty ways.
