I have been an ‘Independent Inspector’ in the RAAF and releasing aircraft for 20 years. I have many MEA units and courses documented in my RTE. Why can’t I simply convert my MAML to a CASA licence? What am I missing?

Quite simply, you don’t have what is required for licencing under CASA.

Do my CAR 31 ‘Basics’ Exams (e.g., ‘GG’) ever expire? Can they be used for RPL the Part 66 licencing system?

Unlike the CASA Part 66 Exams, there is no legislated time limit window on when a “CASA Basics” exam must be applied to a licence. Hence, the “basics” never expire.

If the requirements to get a licence are straightforward, why does it seem so complicated?

In reality, it shouldn’t be complicated, as the requirements are set out in the Part 66 Manual of Standards.
